Richard B. Markham, MD

Richard B. Markham, MD Dr. Markham was born in Richmond, Virginia. He received his B.A. from Harvard College and his M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He was an intern and resident in Internal Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and then spent two years as a Research Associate in the Laboratory of Microbial Immunity at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He was a clinical and research fellow in Infectious diseases at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Markham joined the faculty in Infectious Diseases at Washington University School of Medicine in 1980. He remained at Washington University until 1988 when he moved to Baltimore to assume a position at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He is presently a Professor of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Hygiene and Public Health. Dr. Markham’s research interest has been in the area of antibody response to polysaccharide antigens. More recently he has been interested in antibody responses to HIV antigen and mechanism of preventing transmission.
