Somnuek Sungkanuparph, M.D. Adjunct Professor of Medicine Office Location: Mahidol University, Bangkok Dr. Sungkanuparph joined the Infectious Disease Division as an Adjunct Professor in 2008. He received his MD (1st class honor), Board of Internal Medicine and Board of Infectious Diseases from Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. He also did his fellowship in Infectious Disease at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Currently he works as an Associate Professor in Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University. The major focus of Dr. Sungkanuparph 's current research is HIV drug resistance in resource-limited settings and concomitant therapy for HIV and opportunistic infections esp. tuberculosis and cryptococcosis. A second focus of his research is HBV resistance in HIV-infected persons. Research Interests My primary research concerns HIV drug resistance, which includes the study of HIV drug resistance epidemiology, strategies to prevent and treat HIV drug resistance, and impact of HIV drug resistance on survival and quality of life; and concomitant therapy for HIV and opportunistic infections esp. tuberculosis and cryptococcosis. My secondary research focuses on HBV resistance in HIV-infected persons who had been treated with lamivudine-containing antiretroviral regimens. We have participated in various multicenter, multinational studies to provide answers for important research questions in resource-limited settings, with the ultimate goal to improve HIV care in these settings.
